10 tips on writing your first book: -
- Choose a title that describes what your book is about, choose something that evokes passion within you. What colour and picture would you like on the cover?
- How does writing flow best with you? Typing or handwritten? Or voice recorder "speech to text". Go with what flows. Recognise the times of day that suit you best.
- Break the book down into the chapter titles - this is your books story line.
- Think of catchy memorable phrases for your chapter titles.
- Don't be intimidated by those who right large volumes. There is a place for small books that doesn't put non-readers off.
- If you get stuck in your book, consider publishing what you have and leaving the rest for another title.
- Do some research into the area you are writing about. Refer to other writers if you can when it comes to making definitions and explaining terms.
- Choose your audience. Who do you envisage reading your book? Write with them in mind.
- Think of who you want to ask to write the forward on your book. Contact them in good time so you are not waiting weeks for them and delaying your book.
- Do you want endorsements from others in your book? Leave time for this and have a print date ready when you are asking them so they have something to work with.
Go out there and get it done!
